Gary joined the club in September 2010, six games into the 2010-11 league campaign after the resignation of Steve Finney. With more than ten years of coaching experience under his belt, the 35 year old has worked at youth team level with both Walsall & Worcester City and he has been involved with various Dorset County representative sides in recent years.  Currently also the Dorset County Under 16 Manager, a set up that he has been a member of for 5 years, he is qualified to UEFA B coaching licence standard.

Gary Head, First Team Manager

29 year old Steve Manning was appointed as Assistant Manager in June 2011. Steve comes fresh from a successful stint as Manager at Bournemouth University Staff FC who achieved their highest ever league position in his 1st season in charge and reached their first ever cup last season. He also coaches the University team & has much experience coaching in the US. Steve works alongside Cherries Gary Head with the Dorset County U16 team and has plenty of coaching experienced, not least from his job with Arsenal Soccer Schools. Along with his achievements as BUSFC, he lists his greatest achievement in football as getting his Brazilian Coaching Diploma.

Rick Revell joined The Cherries in June 2011 responding to an advert for a coach on our website. After contacting the club at the tail end of the 2010/11 season, Rick came to watch games at Barnet’s Field & was keen to get involved. He has been involved in local football, spending time working with Galaxy Windows FC, Weymouth United and The Rock FC and he also has experience of working with youth sides during his spell with Weymouth Eagles. His best achievement in football was winning the league with Weymouth Eagles in an unbeaten season. Another Manchester United supporter, Revell lists his qualities as being cool, calm and collected.

Rex Upshall has been involved at Sturminster Newton United for 8 years in various capacities. Rex will continue in his position as Reserve Team Manager in 2011/12 but he has also worked with youth teams from all ages 12-18. The Leeds United supporter is also a qualified referee. In fact as well as winning Dorset League’s two, three and four in his time at the Cherries, Rex has also refereed the Dorset Senior Cup. Organised and reliable, the Leeds United supporter is looking forward to future success with the club.

Reserve Team Assistant Manager Derek Young has been involved with Sturminster Newton United for 45 years. The Tottenham Hotspur supporter is looking forward to a better season next season after a disappointing year with the reserve team in 2010/11.
